John 4
Read John Chapter 4 :: Here
Devotional ::
“Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because the woman had said, “He told me everything I ever did!” When they came out to see him, they begged him to stay in their village. So he stayed for two days, long enough for many more to hear his message and believe. Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not just because of what you told us, but because we have heard him ourselves. Now we know that he is indeed the Savior of the world.”
John 4:39-42 NLT

Do you remember the whisper game? It starts with a phrase whispered into an individual’s ear, then they whisper what they heard into someone else’s ear, and so on. Once it reaches the final person they state what they heard and it’s always very different from the original statement.
In our reading today we hear the story of the woman at the well. Jesus is so interested in helping people find freedom through knowing truth! And that’s exactly what happens with this lady. She’s so moved by Jesus that she goes back and tells everyone to come meet Him. Verse 42 says “now we know because we have heard him”.
Too many people have tried to build a second hand relationship with Jesus. They build off of the testimonies of others about Jesus. But Jesus makes Himself available for you to personally hear Him. The testimony of others is merely meant to point people to Jesus. Meeting Him is what brings change. This is directly connecting the first person in the whisper game to the last person.
Psalm 34:8 says “taste and see that the Lord is good”. There is no way to taste or see second hand. Jesus wants you to experience him personally.

Reflect ::
•Have you attempted to build a second hand relationship with Jesus?
•Who are some people you feel you need to share with what God has done in your life?
•Further study: Why do you think the woman came to the well at the hottest time of the day? (vs.6)

Prayer ::
Lord, help me to taste and see for myself that you are good. Lead me to set time aside to hear from you first hand and to be changed by your words. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
{Now, in your own words, talk with the Lord just to get to know Him first hand. Take about 2 minutes to listen for what God wants to say to you. Write it down.}
